SERP tracking software finds the keywords your pages are ranking for, gives you a recently updated ranking for your pages, and monitors the position every day, week, or any period of your choosing. The best SERP tracking tools also provide details ondigit 0and even your Google My Business ranking.
But there are many options out there, and some offer little benefit over manual methods.
We have compiled a list of top 10 software products that will discover, track and monitor your search rankings for you.
Why Use SERP Tracking Software
Tracking your search engine ranking is not just a useful way to monitor your own progress. Ranking improvements can be used to justify further investment in SEO and SEO services. It can be combined with website analytics and conversion data to identify the best marketing channels to spend money on.
In business, competition is never as healthy as total dominance. –Peter Lynchen
However, manually reviewing and crawling search results is impractical. Even a relatively new site with just a few pages can have 100 or more keywords. Just searching Google, Yahoo and Bing global rankings can take hours.
Not to mention the time it will take to browse local listings, check rankings on Google Images, and see if your site is showing up in position 0 and Google questions. As your site grows and your reach improves, the time it takes to track your rankings will increase.
And this is where SERP tracking software comes in. While a SERP checker takes the manual work out of conducting a custom search, a SERP tracker monitors results over time for your specified keywords. Depending on the software you choose and the subscription package you pay for, your ranking checker may be updated daily or weekly. It tells you about wins and losses, and most tools provide a way to generate graphs and reports.
The best SERP crawler is faster, more reliable and gives more comprehensive results than running the task manually. But what makes the best SERP tracking software the best?
Advantages of SERP Tracking Software
Most website owners, niche website owners and bloggers are there to profit. If youmonetize a websiteWhether it's through affiliate links or direct sales, you want to maximize sales, minimize expenses, and make the most of your time. The best SERP tracking software can help you achieve all these goals if used correctly.
learn what works
want you to believeContent is king, links bring you the best results or make money on the list, you need to monitor the results to see what works best for your site. Read guides, analyze competitors and apply your insights. But you also need to track results and monitor performance.
Your position in search engine rankings helps determine the effectiveness of your SEO. Write both long and short form content and see which ones rank higher. create links withguest post, broken link building, and other techniques, and find out which methods will boost your rankings the most. Use the software to determine the effectiveness of the new SEO company you are paying.
With the historical data and reports provided by the best SERP tracking software, you can determine what's working and what's not, and then replicate and improve those efforts.
Choose position tracking software that can track your competitors' websites as well as your own. Some can do this automatically, so when you add a keyword, the software determines your top competitors for that keyword, then monitors and reports on their performance. Alternatively, check if your subscription allows you to monitor multiple domains. Use one domain for your own website and set your top competitors as your other account domains.
Watch out for competitors climbing the leaderboard. Behaviorin-depth competitive analysisand identify what helped them stay ahead of you. Replicate and improve your efforts, and you should be able to replicate and improve your results.
Tackling traffic disruptions
You must have a complete analysis for your website. If you do this, you can set up notifications to notify you of major traffic changes so that you are notified whenever your site loses too much traffic. When that happens, it's easy to panic.
Before you panic, use your SERP software and look for keywords that have dropped significantly. If a single site has dropped in the rankings, it might be time to refresh it and look at competitors that have overtaken it. If your entire site has seen a drop in rankings, this could be an algorithm update and is worth looking into. You may have received ahand prompt, or Google may have modified the search results to include additional SERP features that pushed you further down the page.
Solve fleeting results
Search rankings can be extremely volatile. This especially applies to new posts and new pages. First, once indexed, Google may rank a result for a specific search term on page 1. Later that day, your site may move off page 1 before returning in a few days. When it's your own website, you can only marvel. If it's a client's site, you can prepare for the embarrassing questions, and if you're part of the company you work for, you can report it to your manager or board of directors before they ask.
Generate attractive reports
Most SERP ranking tools offer some form of reporting. At least you can preview the results and movements in the software dashboard. However, most tools offer some form of reporting functionality. These are great to present to the board or clients.
Charts are easy to understand, colorful and can be used to attract more investment or justify current investment levels. You can even enjoy white label reporting that lets you remove the SERP software branding and add your own.
Choosing the Best SERP Tracking Software
There shouldn't be much difference between the tracking tools. Your site will rank where it ranks for your chosen keywords. However, if you've spent a lot of time looking at Google results for your website, you'll know that it's not that simple.
Results may change based on time of day and definitely location. They can change depending on what type of device a person is using when searching, and the difference between the singular and plural versions of a keyword can be astronomical.
And then there's the quality of the reports and other software-specific factors that need to be considered. You should consider the following factors to ensure you are getting the right tracking software for your needs.
Rating update frequency
In most cases, you really don't need to check your rankings for a given keyword and domain more than once a day. Daily updates allow you to monitor unexpected deviations, allowing you to react to unexpected SERP changes and algorithm updates. Weekly updates are very rare and can leave you unaware of drastic changes for a long time.
Some of the software listed offer on-demand updates, which can be useful in a real emergency, but most of the time this shouldn't be necessary.
Google owns more than85% share of the global search engine market, but it's still 15% short and it's remiss to completely ignore companies like Bing and Yahoo. If your site attracts visitors from countries like China, Google is irrelevant.
Good tracking software gives you results from all three major search engines, as well as Yandex, Baidu, and DuckDuckGo. The best ones also offer local results, so you can narrow them down to geographic results, for example. google.co.uk or google.ca. And there are these tools that monitorYouTube to find your videoResults and even Amazon to find your product listings.
Think about what's important to you, how to get your traffic, and what you need to monitor.
Features to look for
Google is no longer just a long list of text results. They have several features on their results pages. Some of these features, like answers to keyword questions, appear at the top of the page. Others appear in the sidebar. And images and videos have their own tabs and appear in search results.
It can be hard to keep up, but not when your SERP crawler is keeping track for you.
Historical performance data
If the software isn't tracking historical data, it's not really a SERP tracker, it's a SERP checker, and they're free and can be found all over the web.
With historical tracking data, you can analyze your performance, optimize your SEO accordingly, and monitor your results.
While some software will provide you with a quick snapshot of historical data since your last scan, you should look for software that allows you to monitor results for the last month or year. Ideally, you can enter your own data to check the results of the changes you make.
Comparing your results to your competitors gives you more than basic bragging rights. By monitoring other sites competing for the same keywords as you, you can see what is and isn't working for them. Combine this with data you've collected yourself and increase your chances of getting top positions for your most important keywords.
white label reporting
If you're a marketing agency or provide marketing services to clients, you don't want the name Ahrefs or SEMRush to appear in your ranking reports. Also, you shouldn't have to create reports and then edit them with Photoshop or transfer the data into spreadsheets in order to create your own branded report.
White label reports allow you to remove SERP tracker branding, add your own logo and send the report directly to your customers. They won't be able to ignore it, they won't know you're getting their data from a third party, and they'll be satisfied with the quality of the reports you provide.
Independent or Suite?
SERP ranking software is unlikely to be the only SEO tool you will use. Other tools that will be invaluable in your optimization efforts include:keyword searchSoftware, link tracking tools and competitor analysis. Instead of buying individual subscriptions to each of these tools, you can access a single package that does it all. However, this may mean sacrificing the quality of one or more elements of the software.
Top 10 SERP Crawlers
- Preis:$99/month – $297/month
- Best for:Big keyword lists
Like many of the SERP ranking tools on this list, AccuRanker charges by the number of keywords it tracks, starting at $99/month for 1,000 keywords. The Danish team claims it's the fastest and most accurate tool on the market, supporting multiple search engines and letting you update rankings almost on demand.
AccuRanker not only works for all major search engines, it also tracks your position on Baidu, Yandex and even YouTube. It monitors position 0 results, related questions and other SERP features, tracking local and global results as well as mobile and desktop searches. It gives you a high-level view of your search rankings rather than just a cursory view of your position for a specific keyword.
AccurRanker is aimed at agencies and professionals. You can track unlimited domains. You can also run a variety of reports, includingpart of the votes, and a drag-and-drop editor lets you email white-label reports to your clients. And because clients can be so demanding, agencies also benefit from viewing and reporting on rating history, as well as the ability to refresh ratings every two hours.
Unfortunately, AccuRanker's agency bias is also part of its biggest downside: its cost. As is common with these tools, account levels are determined by the number of keywords you want to track. Even the lowest count lets you track up to 1,000 keywords, which is great if you need to track multiple sites or a large e-commerce site, but it's a lot for one.Niche or affiliate site, for example, and costs $99/month.
2. Mangools SERPWatcher
- Preis:$29.90/month – $79.90/month
- Best for:All-in-One SEO Tools
SERPWatcher is actually a suite of tools by Mangools. Whichever subscription level you choose, you will have access to:
There are some really good tools out there, but if all you need is rank tracking it can get a little annoying having to pay for extra tools you won't be using. However, the price of Mangools is more than reasonable. AccuRanker lets you track 1,000 keywords for $99. SERPWatcher lets you track 1,500 keywords for $79.90. Also, the basic plan, which costs $29.90/month, allows you to track 200 keywords, which means it's suitable for affiliates and lone niche site owners.
In terms of features, you get daily ranking updates. We know it's tempting to check results every few hours, especially during the first few months of your first website. But that's not really necessary. Daily updates are more than enough and allow you to make reactionary changes after sudden SERP changes. You can track historical data and even receive email alerts alerting you to sudden SERP changes.
One of SERPWatcher's best features is its performance index. This shows your site's overall traffic from organic search, but also potential traffic for your selected keywords. This is similar to Share of Voice but is specifically geared towards organic search. It shows how much better you could be!
3. Advanced Web Sorting
- Preis:$49/month – $499/month
- Best for:agencies
Advanced Web Ranking is not for beginners or individual blog owners. It's for agencies and internal teams that need to track a lot of keywords and generate a lot of reports. he monitors hisKeywords through major search engines like Google, some of the most popular foreign search engines like DuckDuckGo, eCommerce marketplaces like Amazon, and video sharing sites like YouTube. Not only does it cover organic search results, but it also tracks additional SERP features like images, news, and knowledge box results. If your site appears anywhere in the search results, the AWR will know about it.
It provides global, national and local results, as well as daily, weekly or monthly historical data and reports.
AWR isn't stingy with the number of crawled keywords either. The Starter plan, which costs $49/month, monitors 2,000 keywords. The Enterprise plan allows you to monitor 35,500 keywords, although the privilege costs $499 per month.
Reports top the list of features that AWR wants to offer its users. While you need an agency plan to access itlocal keyword searchVolumes lets you create and customize reports using a WYSIWYG editor with the basic plan. You can also add your brand and remove it from Advanced Web Ranking, so it's great for agencies. You can also integrate third-party apps like Data Studio and export CSV data automatically.
AWR's list of features is impressive and clearly aimed at studios and agencies, although the release plan is more than adequate for individuals, especially thanks to the generous number of crawled keywords.
4. SE Classification
- Preis:$39/month – $189/month
- Best for:Flexible pricing plans
SE Ranking offers three main subscription packages, but these are variable. If you're willing to forego the daily upgrades and pay annually, you can save more than half the price you pay. You also get some other related SEO tools. You also get a keyword suggestion tool, a backlink monitor, and an on-page checker. It's not a full complement of SEO tools, but it's not bad, especially considering you get a keyword tool with every subscription plan.
The rank tracking software itself tracks data on Google, Bing and Yahoo and includes Google packages like Maps and Ads. You can also compare your results against up to 5 competitors, and each report includes a viewability score, which is an assessment of how well you're doing for your keywords.
This is another tool that offers reporting features that make it suitable for agencies. This time, you get a subdomain for each customer, and with Plus membership or higher, you can label the reports so your customer doesn't know about your SE ranking usage.
Fortunately, SE Ranking is one of the most important tools in the suite, which means you're mostly paying for this software. However, if you're only interested in SERP tracking, you'll still feel like you're overpaying for a lot of tools that you simply won't use. No matter how cheap the prices are, if you're willing to pay annually and only update weekly, it's still money that could have been better spent elsewhere.
5. ProRank Tracker
- Preis:$25/month – $180/month+
- Best for:Affordable subscriptions for businesses
ProRankTracker offers one of the best SERP tracking tools for businesses. It doesn't have the advanced tools that some of the other options offer, but it's cheaper and easier to use. ProRankTracker tracks keywords across dozens of versions of Google, Yahoo and Bing, depending on your locale. It also does a great job of tracking your YouTube video positions and your Amazon listing positions. And it tracks results across desktop and mobile devices, which should be a standard feature in an age where Google is deployedMobile-first indexing policies.
Depending on the subscription package you choose, you can enjoy on-demand updates. All plans come with automatic daily updates, but if you pay for a standard or higher plan, you can run reports as often as you like. There are domain, page, and keyword limits, but there's also a good range of subscription package sizes, which should ensure you don't pay more than necessary.
While this tool might seem best suited to individual businesses, higher subscription plans include white label reporting. Uniquely, this reporting feature includes a mobile app that you can customize to include your logo and branding and that your customers can download to view customized reports.
- Preis:$99.95/month – $399.95/month
- Best for:The entire SEO package
SEMRush is ideal for marketers, whether professionals or avid amateurs, who love using marketing tools. More than just a standard toolset, it offers keyword research, website audits, social media tracking, content analysis and PPC tools. The tools are widely considered to be the best on offer, which is great if you're looking for a single account that can do it all. However, you don't get to choose, which means that if you're just looking for SERP tracking, you'll be paying more than the odds.
However, when you pay for SEMRush's SERP tracker, you get a very good tracking tool. But there is a caveat here as well. To get the SERP tracking features, you need to pay at least $199.95/month for the Guru package. This allows you to track up to 1500 keywords. This also allows for 10 goals per project. A target can be a specific Google location, for example B. Google UK, and while 10 targets per project should be sufficient, you must pay the guru fee of $399.95/month to take advantage of unlimited targets.
SERP Tracker complements the rest of the tools in SEMRush's arsenal and works great, but the high cost will put you off if you don't need the added features of keyword research tools, website audits, and more.
- Preis:$69/month – $499/month
- Best for:Besseres Tracking als Ahrefs
SERPStat is another all-in-one SEO suite, but where other platforms offer the essential tools, SERPStat really does have it all for you. In addition to ranking tracking, you also get access to advanced keyword research, website analysis that extends to content gap analysis, site and page audits that reveal errors and potential areas for improvement, and backlink analysis. You also get PPC research and extensive reporting capabilities.
However, all of this comes at a cost. Quite high cost if you are tracking more than a few keywords. You get a set number of position checks per month, starting at 15,000 checks with the $69/month Lite plan. While that sounds like a lot, it amounts to just 500 keywords a day if you update your stats daily. And each region counts as a separate exam. So if you check five regions, that's 100 keywords updated per day. With the Enterprise account, you get 20x that amount. This costs $499/month, but replacing your keyword research tool, link checker, and other SEO tools with a single SERPStat account could be a decent value.
But is SERPStat as good as Ahrefs and other keyword research tools? Honestly no.
What SERPStat does really well is to compile comprehensive reports in a readable, understandable and digestible way. Better than Ahrefs anyway. The charts and data are easy to understand, although some of the reports can overwhelm you with statistics.
- Preis:$99/month – $999/month
- Best for:A SERP tracking parallel order
Like Moz and SEMRush, Ahrefs is an established SEO software suite. It combines multiple tools and offers a variety of features and is used by millions of individuals, businesses and agencies. If you need a feature-rich keyword research tool with a small secondary order SERP crawl as a secondary feature, Ahrefs might be your best option. It is not cheap. Indeed SERPStat looks cheap and figuring out how to get the best features is not that easy.
To get similar features offered by other sites, you must first pay for an Ahrefs subscription. If you're just looking for SERP tracking, go for the cheapest plan, although this one still costs $99/month. In return, you can only crawl 500 keywords, receive updates only every 7 days, and don't include mobile updates. However, it does allow you to upgrade to RankTracker Pro which starts at $50 per 500 keywords that rank. This also allows you to receive daily updates and mobile ranking data.
To be honest, while the Ahrefs tools are generally considered high quality, the SERP crawler doesn't stand out as particularly good. If you're looking for a complete package and only have occasional SERP tracking needs, Ahrefs is good enough. If tracking is the most important thing in your plans, Ahrefs is overpriced and doesn't have enough features.
- Preis:$0/month - $4.99/month
- Best for:Free manual tracking
If you're just starting out with a new website and don't have the budget, or if you enjoy the challenge of hand-crawling, there are free tools to help you with some of the work. Free tools beyond Google search results. With free tools you have to give up many functions. Typically, you can only search a single keyword and a single page at a time, and it's unlikely that you'll be able to view historical comparisons directly within the tool.
SERProbot is a free tool. It doesn't allow historical comparison and continuous tracking, but it does allow you to check a domain name and up to 10 keywords at a time. Also, you can use the tool as many times as you like. So if you're willing to work with your fingers, you can still check 500 keywords. It's just going to take a lot longer. Each search takes about two minutes.
While most paid tools check at least the first 100 results, SERPRobot only checks ten results. You're also limited to checking desktop results, which is a downside.
However, for $60/year, which is just $5/month, you can search for unlimited keywords, track history for up to a year, and perform 300 automatic searches per day. If you can scrape together the cash, it's worth the extra investment.
- Preis:$0/month - $4.99 Pro Version
- Best for:mobile users
Finally, we have SERPMojo. SERPMojo is a free tool, but more than that, it's an Android app. We're not sure why you'd want to check keyword rankings on mobile devices instead of desktops, but with over 100,000 installs on Google Play, it's clear that many more people are benefiting from this mobile tool.
And it's a surprisingly good and well-equipped app. Supports results from Google, Yahoo and Bing. You can also choose your Google region for local SEO. It provides a graph of historical data and there are no limits to the number of websites or keywords you can track. What's more, not only is the app free to use, but it doesn't display any ads either.
There is a Pro version that costs a few bucks and unlocks some extra features like automatic background updates. To be honest, it's worth spending a few bucks just to support app developers, but it's not necessary.
What it doesn't do is deliver desktop and mobile results. It also doesn't give details about SERP features and you don't get detailed reports. But for a free tool that works on your phone, it's surprisingly powerful and definitely worth checking out.
SERP tracking software is just one of the many SEO tools you can use to track and even improve your marketing performance. However, it is an advantage. If you're already paying for a service like Ahrefs or SEMRush, you already have access to some sort of tracking software, although you might benefit from upgrading your subscription.
Alternatively, there are standalone tools as well as those built into SEO software packages. There are even free, albeit limited, tools and even mobile apps.
Choose the best SERP tracker based on your budget, the number of keywords you monitor, and how often you want to update your ranking results. If reporting is important to you, make sure you get the report style and features you want.
We've found AccuRanker to be best for large keyword lists and for integrating with analytics and other tools. Mangools is best if you want an affordable yet complete SEO toolset and don't already have one. While SERProbot is free, we found that the SERPMojo Android app has better features and is fully mobile.
